Frequently Asked Questions

Krav Maga

Q: “What kind of physical shape do I need to be in?”

Any! We have Krav Maga students who are in great shape, and others who aren't. Everyone has a great experience, and learns a ton in every class. Those who start out in not-so-great shape often get in shape very quickly. So if this is you, have no fear! Just come and enjoy Krav Maga.

Q: “Can I participate in these Krav Maga classes if I have a medical condition?”

If you have a medical condition, or past / present injury, we advise speaking to your doctor before starting our Harker Heights Krav Maga classes.

The good news is you can adjust your pace to match your physical ability. If you have to go a bit slower than the rest of the class, that's just fine. And no one will judge you. You'll have tremendous support.

Q: “What's the risk for injury with these classes?”

Very low, we're proud to say. We take extreme precautions with our program to insure that you stay safe and sound. As with any form of physical activity, Krav Maga comes with a risk for injury. However, because of the lengths we go to teach Krav Maga safely - injuries are very rare here.

Q: “Are these classes fun? Serious? Strict? Etc.?”

All of the above! Every class ranges from fun & light-hearted, to focused and serious. We've found that a good balance of both provides the most enjoyable and effective learning environment.

Adult Martial Arts

Q: “Can martial arts cause injury?”

Every form of physical exercise, from running to walking to martial arts, comes with a risk for injury. However, our program is run by trained experts who place a tremendous focus on injury prevention.

Because martial arts makes you more balanced, limber & flexible - it generally leads to LESS injury in people's lives. Not the other way around!

Q: “What level of fitness is required for martial arts?”

You'll get in shape as you go. You don't have to be in great shape to start.

The great thing about martial arts is you can be at any fitness level and do great. That's because there's no rush or pressure to do anything quickly. You can learn at your own pace.

If you have a knack for it, you can speed through techniques. If it's a bit harder for you, take your time. All we care about is that you're having fun, learning and progressing, and staying safe.

Q: “Is there violence involved in martial arts?”

People often mistake self-defense for violence. We teach self-defense here.

Self-defense means doing everything in your power to AVOID violence! It means being diplomatic and peaceful. In fact, people who have had problems with violence in the past often become peaceful and balanced through martial arts.

Kids Martial Arts

Q: “Can my child get injured with Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

As a parent, I'm sure you've seen that kids can get injured doing just about anything. Martial Arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. Yes, injuries do sometimes happen. But we do everything in our power to avoid them. We do special exercises and stretches to make your child's body limber and flexible.

Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do fun for children?”

Absolutely! In fact, kids usually have to drag their parents to Martial Arts class - something parents are always shocked to see. We have our serious moments here where kids work and learn... but we have just as many moments where they goof off and have a blast!

Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do a skill / talent that will give my child pride and confidence?”

Q: “What ages are the other kids in the Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do class?”

We have classes for kids as young as 3, and as old as teenagers. Martial Arts is the kind of thing that grows with you. So as kids get older, they learn new techniques, perfect old ones, and advance. When they're younger, it's more about fun and games, with learning thrown in too.

Q: “Do boys AND girls take Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our kids martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much “stronger and tougher,” but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!

Q: “My child isn't athletic. Can they still participate in Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do if they're not athletic?”

Yes! In fact, martial arts is a beacon of light for kids who just don't fit into team sports. Kids who couldn’t throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars. Plus...no one is left out or sits the bench at Legacy Martial Arts! We make sure everyone gets personal time to work on specific needs for success!

Q: “Does Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do make kids physically aggressive?”

No way! Martial Arts is about peace, harmony and diplomacy. It teaches children how to AVOID fights - not pick them.
